This document describes how to use Mudfish LAN feature. This feature is available from version v5.4.0 or later.
Introdution
With this feature, mudfish users can play LAN-based games together. It provides similar functions like Hamachi, ZeroTier, etc.
Features
The current version of Mudfish LAN version only provides the following minimum basic functions:
Create a room
Mudfish LAN uses mudfish nodes for LAN play. When a room is created, The unique number whose format is like XXX-XXXX is assigned.
Join the room
You can join an existing room using the created room number XXX-XXXX.
How to install
If you install Mudfish Cloud VPN, Mudfish LAN is a part of it.
Run
Windows
Find the Mudfish Cloud VPN menu under the Start button. Underneath it, there's a
Mudfish LAN
menu.Run it as an administrator.
Linux
In the case of Linux, after installing the mudfish package,
use the -A
option to enter LAN mode:
$ /opt/mudfish/5.4.0/bin/mudrun -A
macOS
Currently, macOS does not provide Mudfish LAN feature.
How to use
It is very simple to use. One person makes a room, and others can participate with the room number.
- Mudfish LAN program uses TAP-Win32 adpater v9 or tap(4) driver to work. And one of 172.16.16.0/20 IP address is assigned to each persons.
Precautions
Game traffic is relayed through the mudfish nodes. Therefore, for PPT data plan user, you are charged for the use of mudfish node traffic. For Subscription data plan user, there is no traffic charge, but you will be with the speed cap.
Mudfish nodes are used to relay the game traffics. It means at this moment it doesn't work with peer-to-peer (P2P)-based communication.
TAP-Win32 adpater v9 network device is used for Windows and its device must be DHCP enabled.
Mudfish VPN and Mudfish LAN cannot be used together.
Currently, you cannot chat with each other. To talk to each other Please use Discord or other chat and discussion services.

Q. Which a mudfish node should I choose when making a room?
The mudfish node that you select when creating a room is for all users who access the room. It is a mudfish node to connect to. So, with the following priorities, it seems to be good to choose.
The closest mudfish node to all users.
Mudfish node with good ping evenly for all users.
A place where the mudfish node is stable to relay the traffic of users.
