Mudfish Ping
Mudfish Ping provides two services:
- Ping measures the RTT (Round Trip Time) to a destination you specify.
- DNS Lookup queries a domain and displays its A and CNAME records.
Ping
This measures RTT between the selected Mudfish nodes and the destination IP address. To measure RTT from the nodes to your own computer or router, enter your public IP address.
Uses
Use this service to check the current RTT between a Mudfish node and a destination, or between a Mudfish node and your computer.
Input
Two measurement methods are available: ICMP and TCP.
ICMP Ping
The destination must allow ICMP Echo Request / Reply packets. Otherwise, the result will be DOWN.
Enter a public IP address. Domain names and private IP addresses are not accepted.
TCP Ping
The destination public IP address must have a TCP service listening on the specified port. Otherwise, the result will be DOWN.
Enter a public IP address and a TCP port. Domain names and private IP addresses are not accepted.
Results
Each node runs three tests and displays the results. Click a column heading to sort in ascending or descending order.
- Location: the name of the node that ran the test.
- Public IP: that node's public IP address.
- Result: UP means the test succeeded from that node. DOWN means it failed for an unknown reason. One possible cause is that the node's hosting provider blocks ICMP.
- Minimum RTT: the lowest RTT from the three tests.
- Average RTT: the average RTT from the three tests.
- Maximum RTT: the highest RTT from the three tests.
DNS Lookup
This service queries a domain and displays its A and CNAME records.
Uses
It is useful for checking which IP addresses a CDN (Content Delivery Network) domain resolves to in different countries.
Results
- Location: the name of the node that ran the query.
- Public IP: that node's public IP address.
- Result: currently unused.
- CNAME: CNAME records for the domain, if present.
- A: A records for the domain, if present.
