Per-Eaddr Mode

info

This feature is available only on supported ipTIME routers running Mudfish. The menu does not appear on unsupported routers.

Per-Eaddr mode lets you apply Mudfish to selected devices instead of every device connected to the router. It is supported in Mudfish for routers v2.1.24 and later.

Use this feature to select computers by their Ethernet address (MAC address).

Open Setup -> Local Computer. If this menu is missing, check that you are running Mudfish v2.1.24 or later.

Configuration

  1. Find the Ethernet address (MAC address) of each device you want to use. If your ipTIME router uses its DHCP server:

    • Open Advanced Settings -> Network Management -> DHCP Server Settings.
    • Under IP Addresses in Use, find the connected devices. Each device's MAC address appears next to its private IP address.
  2. In the Mudfish UI, open Setup -> Local Computer -> Per-Eaddr Mode. Enter one MAC address per line, for example:

    88:88:88:88:87:88
    F4:4D:30:AE:92:FD

Use colons. Addresses with hyphens, such as F4-4D-30-AE-92-FD, are not supported.

If you leave this field empty, Mudfish applies to all computers and devices connected to the router.

  3. Save the settings, log out of Mudfish, and log in again to apply them.

Supported router models

Although the UI may allow Per-Eaddr mode to be enabled, hardware or firmware limitations prevent it from working on some models. The following models have been tested; the list will be updated as additional models are tested.

ModelResult
ipTIME A2003NS-MUWorking
ipTIME AX2004BCMWorking
ipTIME A6004MXWorking
ipTIME A8004NS-MNot working

On models marked Not working, the firmware's Linux kernel does not support iptables -t mangle.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my Per-Eaddr settings keep resetting?

Per-Eaddr settings are stored on the ipTIME router, rather than on the Mudfish master server. A firmware reset or another event that removes this local information can reset the settings. Check the following:

  • Have you recently upgraded the router's firmware?
  • Is Automatic Router Restart enabled under Advanced Settings -> System Management -> Other Settings? This feature can reset the Mudfish settings.
